Job summary

St. Mary’s County Government is seeking a transportation driver responsible for transporting patrons on county routes and Paratransit services. The role requires pre- and post-trip inspections, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and assisting passengers with loading and unloading.

The ideal candidate will hold a High School diploma or GED, have a CDL with passenger endorsement within 6 months, and pass required DOT medical and background checks. Flexible shifts exist across weekdays and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; equivalence may be considered.

• Knowledge of Maryland traffic laws and St. Mary’s County roads.

Responsibilities

• Transport patrons to destinations on county routes.
• Complete Driver Data Collection sheets and Paratransit manifests.

• Ensure vehicle is clean; check fluids and fuel.
• Assist passengers with loading and unloading as needed.
• Transport Paratransit clients.
• Attend in-service training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Performs transportation services for patrons to destinations on all transportation routes within the County. MINIMUM 30 HOURS PER WEEK.

1. Transports patrons to destinations on all transportation routes within the County;
2. Complete the Driver Data Collection sheet; which shows trip mileage and passenger ridership or the Paratransit Manifest sheet;
3. Performspreandposttripinspectionofvehicleassigned;
4. Conducts general cleanliness of assigned vehicle;
5. Ensuresvehiclefluidsandfuelarefull;
6. Assists passengers load or disembark when necessary;
7. Transport Paratransit clients;
8. Attendin-servicetraining;
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements:

1. Valid MD Driver's License;
2. Valid or successful completion of Department of Transportation Physical/DOT physical examination;
3. Must successfully pass background investigation with favorable results;
4. Available to work any shifts between Monday - Friday 4:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.; Saturdays 5:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. and Sundays 5:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.;
5. Position is classified as safety-sensitive and shall be subject to drug and alcohol testing as required under federal regulations;
6. Successful candidate must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States prior to employment;
7. Candidate must get a CDL with passenger endorsement license within 6 months of employment;
8. Must successfully pass background investigation with favorable results;
9. Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work demands occasional strenuous effort. May perform manual work involving walking over rough, uneven terrain, repeated bending climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or, handling moderately heavy equipment or materials from 30 to 60 pounds. Must also have the physical ability to push/pull, squat twist and turn and have the ability to evacuate people from the bus in the event of dangerous conditions and be able to sit for long periods of times.

Work involves risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, or machines, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, observance of traffic signals, and/or working in moderate to adverse outdoor weather conditions.
