- Coordinate and conduct vehicle maintenance, including seasonal start-up inspections, routine maintenance, and final inspections.
- Perform daily walk-around inspections of vehicles, report issues, and replenish supplies as needed.
- Maintain an inventory of janitorial supplies, ensure MSDS and 'Right to Know' information is posted, and handle chemicals safely.
- Keep a current list of transported children, ensuring attendance and security.
- Conduct safety checks on children and report concerns, ensuring no child is left alone on the bus.
- Serve as a liaison between families and program staff, reporting concerns during routes.
- Complete paperwork related to vehicle operations and maintenance.
- Conduct monthly bus evacuation drills and document results.
- Maintain cleanliness of the center and grounds, including playground inspections and upkeep.
- Transport children and assist with supervision during various activities and trips.
- Participate in training for serving children with disabilities or special needs.
- Assist with recruitment activities, including recruiting children with disabilities.
- Support other locations as needed and develop bus routes in coordination with Family Services and Center Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 21 years old with a valid CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
- Ability to work flexible hours and be insurable according to DOT regulations.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and adequate insurance.
- Experience in transporting young children preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The role involves physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 40 lbs. Occasionally, assistance is needed for heavier lifts. The environment includes moderate temperatures and noise levels.
Tools & Equipment
- Phones, computers, fax, copy machines, calculators.
- First aid equipment, child safety restraints, hand tools, yard tools, floor buffers.
- Driving various capacity buses.
Additional Requirements
- Successful criminal background check, DOT physical, and medical card.
- Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, TB screening, and training in SIDS & Shaken Baby.
- Other trainings as required. Employment is contingent upon these requirements.
