Job summary

The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence is seeking a CDL-B ELDT trainee who will learn by attending trainings, driving under supervision, and progressing through the ELDT course to obtain permits and licenses with endorsements for DMV, DOT, and agency policies.

Responsibilities include learning compliance requirements, practicing safe driving, attending trainings, keeping vehicles clean, and maintaining accurate daily reports and bus-driver procedures.

Qualifications

• Possess a clean driver’s license.
• Three-years of work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Practice safe driving techniques adhering to DMV and DOT regulations.
• Attend bus driver meetings, agency trainings, and/or workshops as scheduled.
• Remove trash from vehicle daily and dispose of trash in garage receptacle, and clean the bus.
• Perform a walk-through on vehicle after all passengers disembark to ensure nothing remains onboard.
• Report incidents or concerns according to agency policy and procedures.
• Maintain accurate reporting per department policy.
• Complete daily vehicle reports and grant reports using assigned equipment.
• Adhere to all procedures in the Bus Drivers' Procedure Handbook.
• Determine that all passengers are seated and wearing seat belts prior to transporting.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Established according to assigned routes, no minimum hours. Regular schedule that will include weekends and evenings, based on needs.

Qualifications

Possess a clean driver’s license; three-years of work experience preferred.

Authorized to work in the United States.

Summary/Objective

Responsible for attending trainings, driving under supervision, and actively learning during the CDL-B ELDT course. Trainees will attain permit and license with endorsements to comply with DMV Article 19-A, Federal Transit Authority, and Dept. of Transportation regulations, as well as agency policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

• Responsible to complete daily vehicle reports and grant reports on a daily basis using assigned equipment.

Supervisory Responsibility

Other than oversight of passengers who are being transported, there are no direct supervisory responsibilities with this position.

Travel

Travel within Jefferson and St. Lawrence County for career fairs and other community events within the scope of position.

Work Environment

This position requires working both inside and outside as part of Public Transit driving and transporting.
