Job Description
Bus Driver Float – This position offers Health Insurance Benefits. Days and hours are as needed – currently 180 days per year, 6 hours per day. Reports to: Director of Operations or designee. Salary: $24.28 - $28.11 Bus Driver.
Qualifications
- Minimum age 21 years.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must meet all school bus driver requirements set forth in State law and by the Ohio Department of Education.
- Demonstrated competency for assigned responsibilities.
- Industrial or institutional experience in facilities maintenance preferred.
- Valid boiler license where required.
- Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
- Residence in the taxing district of Alliance City Schools preferred.
- Other alternatives acceptable as determined by the Board.

Performance Responsibilities & Job Functions
- Obey all State and Local traffic laws and rules as outlined in the Ohio Pupil Transportation Rules and Regulations Handbook.
- Observe mandatory safety regulations, including seat belt use.
- Inspect the bus each day per the Ohio Pre‑trip Inspection regulations.
- Enforce Board of Education Discipline Policy and report undisciplined students appropriately.
- Maintain seating chart and route sheets for all routes.
- Operate assigned bus as per the schedule.
- Discharge students only at authorized stops unless approved by Director of Operations or designee.
- Transport only authorized students unless specifically permitted.
- Provide transportation for all extra trips as needed.
- Notify bus garage dispatch immediately of mechanical failure or lateness.
- Report all accidents, injuries, motor vehicle accidents or safety concerns immediately to dispatch.
- Clean interior daily and exterior as needed.
- Parks bus in designated area.
- Attend all school bus suspension or expulsion hearings as directed.
- Submit all required forms and records as directed.
- Report daily to Director of Operations or mechanic regarding safety or mechanical defects.
- Use CB radio only for official school business in accordance with District guidelines.
- Maintain highest standards for safety and cleanliness per all applicable guidelines.
- Keep bus in clean, safe, maximum operating condition.
- Maintain friendly and helpful attitude toward students, employees and public.
- Never leave in an emergency without authorization from Director of Operations.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend meetings and in‑services as required by Board Policy or Superintendent.
- Ensure student safety and report any concerns immediately.
- Follow district policies and procedures per employee code of conduct.
- Interact positively with staff, students, parents, and public.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy.
- Promote good public relations through appearance, attitude, and conversation.
- Access and respond to e‑mails daily.
- Respond to routine questions and requests promptly.
- Serve as a role model for students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Director of Operations or Superintendent.
Equipment & Operation Knowledge
- Telephones and copy machine.
- Computer system and software programs.
- Working knowledge of all transportation equipment including school bus, wheelchair lift (if applicable), CB radio, etc.
Additional Working Conditions
- Occasional interaction with unruly children.
- Frequent repetitive hand movement.
- Frequent excessive sitting during workday.
- Various physical movements including sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoop.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 70 pounds.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles or dangerous chemicals.
- Operation of vehicle under normal and inclement weather conditions.
- Travel to meetings as required.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or summer work.
- Occasional overtime.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
