Job Title: Before and After School Bus Driver
Department: Recreation
Reports to: Recreation Supervisor, Youth Programming
Job Class: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $17.00 per hour
Work Hours: Morning or Afternoon Routes
Morning Routes:
- Guaranteed pay for AM shift of 2 hours per shift for Mondays: 8:30 am -10:30 am, even if actual hours worked are less than 2 hours. Monday is a delayed start for schools across the district.
- Guaranteed pay for AM shift of 2 hours per shift for Tues- Fri: 7:30 am - 9:30 am, even if actual hours worked is less than 2 hours.
Afternoon Routes:
- Guaranteed pay for PM shift of 2 hours per shift, Mon-Fri: 2:45 pm - 4:45 pm, even if the shift actual hours worked is less than 2 hours.
- Any additional shifts worked, such as for field trips and summer Camp Trips, are paid for at actual hours worked.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Recreation Supervisor, Youth Programming, the Recreation Driver will participate in driving a 14-passenger bus to transport the children who participate in various Park District Programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizing the Park District 14 - passenger minibus, transports children participating in the Before and After School Care program to and from various local schools.
- May assist, if an aide is not present on bus, with entering school to check in and out program participates as needed.
- Reviews daily sheets and routes, ensures children are all present.
- May perform other transportation duties as assigned.
- Perform all safety inspections on bus as required before and after bus use. Ensures the bus is safe for use each shift and reports any concerns immediately.
- During seasonal weather, ensures the bus is clear of snow or debris and ready to use prior to transportation shift.
- Ensures safety of all patrons on the bus, reports any incidents to supervisor.
- Performs other duties and functions as directed.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual, Personnel Policy Manual, and Safety Manual.
- Adheres to all rules of the road and local driving laws.
- Ensures daily cleanliness of bus. Reports further cleaning to Custodial Supervisor as needed.
- Promotes a positive and friendly work environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Successfully passed a criminal and state driving record review from the State.
- CPR/First aid certified upon hire.
- Successfully passed the post-offer physical exam, including vision screening for company vehicle use.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- The work area is both indoors and outdoors, in a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting, and outdoors in various weather conditions while operating the company vehicle.
- Frequently sitting while operating a motor vehicle. Some walking outside vehicles into schools may be required.
