The State of South Carolina seeks a Bus Driver to ensure safe transportation for students to and from school and activities. Key responsibilities include managing student behavior, adhering to traffic regulations, and maintaining communication with parents. A valid CDL and experience with motorized vehicles are essential for this position.
Safely drives bus/car/van to transport students to and from home, on field trips, and to health care or other facilities as needed. Delivers students to their destination in a safe and timely manner following established routes. Obeys all traffic signals and highway regulations governing the operation of school buses. Reports any mechanical problems immediately to appropriate personnel.
Assists in behavior management of students; ensures behavior reports are completed when necessary; confirms students are picked up by authorized parties; supervises students at all times; reports student problems and accomplishments to parents; and ensures all luggage is properly delivered.
Requirements include a current and valid CDL, School Bus Certificate, and DOT Physical. Must have an acceptable 10-year driving history under State Fleet Management (SFM) and S. C. Department of Education-Transportation (SCDOE-T) guidelines. Experience in operation or maintenance of motorized vehicles is preferred.
Must maintain a valid S.C. Commercial Driver License (CDL) with proper endorsements for school bus operation and current D.O.T. Health Card. A good driving record with no more than 4 current violation points is required. Successful completion of Defensive Driving Course (DDC) is mandatory to comply with State Fleet Management regulations.
Ability to work with clients who are deaf, blind, and multi-sensory disabled is essential. Overnight travel and weekend work may be required depending on route assignments. Communication modalities may vary based on employment placement.
