This position is responsible for ensuring students' safety and maintaining order during transportation within the Irving Independent School District. The bus driver operates a school bus to transport students and authorized personnel to and from schools or designated locations.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution (preferred) or fully certified with a Class A or B CDL with P and S endorsements and the 20-hour Bus Safety Certificate.
  • Valid Texas Commercial Driver License - Class A or B, including P and S endorsements (preferred).
  • State Bus Driver’s certification course (preferred).
  • DOT physical Medical Examiners Certificate (preferred).
Skills and Knowledge
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass an annual physical examination.
  • Possess or obtain a CDL License and school bus certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Attend safety and operational training provided by the district.
  • Satisfactory driving record.
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Ability to respond verbally to safety and behavioral concerns.
Experience

At least one year of related experience is preferred.

Major Responsibilities
  • Safely operate the bus on assigned routes, adhering to schedules and traffic laws.
  • Maintain safety during student boarding and disembarking.
  • Enforce discipline and report any issues.
  • Keep records of routes, stops, and seating charts.
  • Perform emergency evacuations when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and fuel levels of the bus.
  • Inspect the bus for mechanical issues and report abnormalities.
  • Communicate with the Transportation Office via cell phone.
  • Complete accident and injury reports immediately.
  • Administer basic first aid as needed.
  • Participate in training sessions and safety meetings.
  • Follow district policies and procedures.
Working Conditions

Physical and environmental demands include prolonged sitting, climbing, lifting up to 40 lbs, exposure to weather conditions, and operating a vehicle up to 100 miles daily. The role requires effective communication, emotional control, and safety awareness.
