    Position: Bus Driver
    Department: Transportation
    Reports to: Transportation Director
    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly) – Service Employees International Union Local 32 BJ District 1201
    Schedule: Part Time, 10 Months
    Hourly Rate: $28.16/hour

    MISSION STATEMENT:
    The Upper Moreland Township School District is an educational institution working in partnership with the community to provide all students with educational opportunities to develop knowledge, skills, behaviors, and habits of mind necessary for excellence and success as critical thinkers, as caring and confident individuals, and as contributing members of society. Students of the Upper Moreland Township School District will be provided with the foundation and skills necessary to excel in the exciting, complex, and interdependent world in which they live.

    SUMMARY:
    Providing safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the District's curricular and extracurricular programs.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
    (Other appropriate duties may be assigned.)
    • Obeys all traffic laws, specifically those pertaining to school buses.
    • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for buses including but not limited to child safety equipment (i.e. car seats, booster seats, safety vests).
    • Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
    • Reports disciplinary issues and concerns to the proper authority.
    • Keeps assigned bus clean.
    • Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects.
    • Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
    • Discharges students only at authorized stops.
    • Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
    • Transports only authorized students.
    • Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
    • Enforces regulations against smoking and eating on the bus.
    • Ability to safely evacuate all passengers in an emergency vehicular situation including but not limited to passengers ranging from ages three to twenty-one, in adherence with the procedures outlined in the Transportation Employee Handbook.
    • Other associated duties and responsibilities as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     • High School diploma; preference given to those having a minimum of two years college. Previous experience with children preferred.
    • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, School Bus Endorsement, Passenger Endorsement and Commercial Driver's License or be able to pass all tests to obtain the same. Valid current state driver's license must be maintained at all times. Must meet requirements of DL-502A License Requirement.
    • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with the ability to safely evacuate all passengers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
    • Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements.
    • Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
