Job Summary:
  • Provide for the safe, efficient, and courteous transportation of students.
  • DL Class B with PS endorsement with a good driving record.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and T-8 Physical acceptable
  • BCI & FBI background checks.
Minimum Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience:
  • None
Preferred Education/Experience:
  • 1-3 years of experience in driving commercial vehicles
Required Licensure:

Commercial Driver's License

Essential Functions (includes % of time spent on the job):
  • Operates the assigned vehicle according to all motor vehicle laws. Keeps the transportation supervisor informed about emerging issues.
  • Maintains established routes and time schedules.
  • Transports only authorized passengers. Picks up and unloads students only at approved stops. Keeps route sheets up-to-date. Offers routing suggestions.
  • Fuels the assigned vehicle. Performs pre-trip/post-trip safety inspections. Checks safety equipment and first aid supplies. Prepares reports that describe equipment malfunctions.
  • Supervises bus loading and unloading procedures. Operates the wheelchair lift. Ensures that wheelchairs are properly secured before operating the bus.
  • Inspects harnesses, restraints, and other safety devices. Immediately corrects or reports unsafe conditions and/or defective equipment.
  • Anticipates and prepares to provide assistance when aware of passengers with medical or other health considerations.
  • Assumes responsibility for the interior/exterior cleanliness of the vehicle.
  • Uses proper protocol when operating bus communication equipment.
Other Responsibilities:
  • Attempts to identify and report vehicles that fail to comply with traffic regulations (e.g., failure to stop for flashing bus lights, passing in prohibited zones, etc.).
  • Watches for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g., profanity, teasing, bullying, distress, etc.). Intervenes and/or reports concerns to an administrator.
  • Immediately reports all traffic citations and accidents. Documents injuries that require medical attention.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
Physical Requirements:
  • Sit, stand and walk on a frequent basis up to eight hours per day.
  • Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.
  • Push away from and pull towards the body from a seated position frequently up to five-hours per day.
  • Fine motor skills required for use in pincher grasp and typing.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is generally inside a moving vehicle.
