Job summary

Cle Elum-Roslyn School District is seeking qualified school bus drivers for the 2025-26 school year. Responsibilities include safe operation of buses, pre-trip inspections, passenger safety, and adherence to OSPI and district policies.

The position requires a high school graduate, 21 years of age, valid WA CDL with endorsements, and completion of required training. Work schedule is 3–4.5 hours per day with a 193-day calendar and SEBB benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate.
  • Be at least 21 years of age with 5 years of driving experience.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license; Class B, CDL with appropriate endorsements.
  • School bus driver authorization issued by OSPI.
  • First aid qualified (eight-hour Red Cross or equivalent).
  • Meet all requirements of WAC chapter 392-144 and 28A-400, 300-340 RCW.

Responsibilities

  • Keep accurate records of driving time and mileage.
  • Complete reports, forms, or records required by the district or state.
  • Report all deficiencies and repairs to supervisor/mechanic via written work order.
  • Buses shall be swept and cleaned daily.
  • Perform pre-trip and daily checks of safety systems and equipment.
  • Operate school buses in accordance with Washington state laws and OSPI/RCW policies.
  • Maintain control of student passengers and ensure safety.
  • Complete school bus driver training and maintain required certifications.
  • Assist with loading/unloading for wheelchair lift (on lift bus).
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and the public.
  • Provide assistance during emergencies and evacuations.
  • Perform additional duties per route and district needs.

Job description

THIS IS A CONTINUING POSITION FOR THE 2025-26 SCHOOL YEAR.

Note: This position is open to qualified CERSD applicants May 13 - 19, 2025. Applications received from out of district applicants will not be considered until May 20th. Reports to:

Accountable to Transportation Supervisor

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Keep an accurate record of driving time and mileage.
  2. Complete accurately all other reports, forms, or records required by the district or state.
  3. Drivers are responsible for the condition of their buses. They shall report all deficiencies and need for repairs to the supervisor/mechanic by means of a written work order.
  4. Buses shall be swept and cleaned daily.
  5. Before each run the driver shall check the following:
    1. Brakes
    2. Lights
    3. Stop signs and other safety devices
    4. Warning signal lamps
    5. Windshield
    6. Hatches, safety lock and emergency door warning systems
  6. Once daily before the first time the bus is driven, the following shall be checked:
    1. Oil level
    2. Water level
    3. Power steering level
    4. Fuel
    5. Tires
    6. Oil pressure
    7. Hatches, safety lock, emergency door warning systems
    8. Air Brake system cycle
    9. 1st Aid Kit
    10. Fire extinguisher
  7. Drivers shall notify the supervisor of dangerous conditions, or unsafe acts, which exist on his or her run.
  8. Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies promulgated by OSPI WAC 392-144, and RCW 28A.400.300-340
  9. Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety.
  10. Successfully complete school bus driver training programs and annual courses established by OSPI and the school district. Drivers must maintain current first aid, appropriately endorsed driver’s license, and a current DOT medical certificate signed by an authorized DOT medical examiner as conditions of employment.
  11. Operate wheelchair lift and assist students loading and unloading from the school bus (only on lift bus).
  12. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and public.
  13. Assist ill or physically impaired students to enter or exit a school bus through the passenger service door.
  14. Provide assistance to students in evacuating the bus in any accident or other emergency situation.
  15. Install tire chains (ability to lift 50 pounds) and perform all pre-trip inspections as required by district practice.
  16. Perform after school and/ or sports related trips based on seniority of drivers.
  17. Perform other school bus driver-related duties as directed by supervisor of transportation.
  18. Comply with reasonable requests made by Transportation Supervisor and other district administration.

Additional duties depending on the route you take may include:

Clean support vehicles, this will be vacuuming, wiping down, removing trash and washing them all. Also fuel them if they are not on full. This will be documented in a folder.

Clean the break roomarea, sweep, take out trash, straighten up. Also clean the restrooms-all 3, clean toilets and sinks, keep toilet paper and paper towels full, take out trash, sweep and mop once a week. Also sweep through the entrance area and mop when needed. There will be a check off sheet to sign.

Qualifications:
  1. High School graduate.
  2. Be at least 21 years of age with 5 years of driving experience. WAC 392-144-101
  3. Valid Washington State driver’s license; Class B, CDL with appropriate endorsements.
  4. School bus driver authorization issued by OSPI.
  5. First aid qualified (eight-hour Red Cross or equivalent).
  6. Meet all requirements of WAC chapter 392-144 and 28A-400, 300-340 RCW (drug testing, disclosure, finger printing). And maintain compliance with state rules and regulations for school bus drivers.
  7. Excellent driving record free of major infractions.
  8. Complete 5 year driver license abstract required by OSPI.
  9. Physically able to drive and perform all duties related to school bus driving.
  10. Provide a copy of a current valid medical examiner’s certificate from a certified CDL medical examiner.
Terms of Employment/Benefits
  • Contract: 193 Day Classified Contracted Calendar
  • Affiliation: PSE Classified
  • Hours: 3 - 4.5 hours per day, 5 days a week
  • Sick time/Personal Days: up to 12 sick days per school year and up to 3 personal days per year.
  • Union Hourly rate enhancement: credit for college degrees or certifications per PSE contract
  • Benefits:Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance through SEBB*
  • Retirement: If qualified, two plan choices with DRS, Plan 2 and 3.
  • Paid Holidays: Up to 11 paid holidays each year. Current year paid holidays depends on start date.
  • Hourly Wage: Max hourly wage is with 25 years of district experience.
  • Wage is the 25-26 salary schedule.
Start Date
  • August 27th, 2025 with new hire orientation on August 20th.
