School District #36 (Surrey) is seeking a dependable bus driver for Santa Monica routes. Under general supervision, you will operate a school bus or van on a prescribed schedule, transport students to and from school and events, and help load and unload riders safely.
The qualifications include a California Class A or B license with P and S endorsement, a valid medical examiner’s certificate, and no major driving restrictions.

Positions are typically 7 hours per day, Monday - Friday, during the regular school year, with the possibility of working during summer recess.
Under general supervision, drive a school bus or van over a prescribed route within an established time schedule; transport students to and from school, athletic events and on special event trips; and perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
A high school diploma or recognized equivalent is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) months of experience in the operation of a school bus is highly desirable.

ABILITY:
General supervision is received from the Director of Transportation or designee. No supervisory or lead responsibilities are exercised.
ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a school bus environment. Work requires driving in various road and weather conditions. Work may require exposure to noise. Potential hazards involve traffic hazards when stopping traffic and escorting students across streets; adverse weather conditions while driving a school bus; exhaust fumes; and contact with abusive or uncooperative individuals.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy objects; sitting for extended periods of time when operating a transportation vehicle; walking and stepping up/down or standing for extended periods of time; bending at the waist; hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Generally, new employees start at the first step on the appointed salary schedule. When filling a permanent vacancy, a new employee may request a higher salary placement based on having training and experience that greatly exceeds the minimum qualifications. An employee may submit a formal request for advanced step consideration on or after the first day of employment. Education transcripts, training certificates, and additional references may be requested for verification purposes.
