KAW VALLEY USD 321 District Office in St. Marys, Kansas seeks a Bus Driver to transport students safely and on schedule. Starting wage is $20.60 per hour and full-time employment is offered.

The role requires a CDL with P and S endorsements, ELDT completion, and compliance with background checks, drug testing, First Aid/CPR, Defensive Driving, and safety training. Immediate start available.

Qualifications

• Shall hold a commercial driver’s license with P and S endorsements.
• Complete ELDT training from a FMCSA-approved provider (min 12 hours).
• Pass Kansas KDOT background check and drug testing.
• Complete an approved First Aid/CPR course and renew as required.
• Pass a state-approved Defensive Driving Course within 30 days.
• Have a physical exam per KDOT form 1541.
• Attend 10 safety meetings annually.
• Route drivers must be 18+; activity drivers 21+.

Responsibilities

• Maintain daily transportation logs and safety checks.
• Report mechanical issues to Transportation Director.
• Collaborate with drivers to plan daily routes and monthly trips.
• Communicate professionally with parents and stakeholders.
• Maintain route maps and keep copies with Transportation Director.
• Follow pickup times on route sheets.
• Maintain cleanliness of the bus inside and out.
• Ensure a safe and orderly bus environment.

Starting Wage: $20.60

Immediate Supervisor: Kaw Valley USD 321 Transportation Director

School Bus Driver Qualifications/Requirements:

• Shall maintain a commercial class A or B driver's license, with both "P" (passenger) and "S" (school bus) endorsements
• Complete Entry Level Behind the Wheel Training (ELDT) with a FMCSA registered training provider - minimum of 12 hours
• Must pass Kansas Department of Transportation required background check and drug testing
• Complete an approved First Aid/CPR course (within 30 days of the first day of student transport, and certification renewed and kept current)
• Pass a state approved Defensive Driving Course (within 30 days of the first day of student transport, and renewed at minimum every 3 years)
• Have a physical examination in accordance with the Kansas Department of Transportation form 1541
• Attend 10 safety meetings annually
• Route drivers must be a minimum of 18 years of age, Activity Drivers must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

School Bus Driver Duties/Responsibilities:

• Maintain daily transportation logs (including documentation of safety checks) and submit to supervisor
• Report mechanical problems or routine maintenance needs to Director of Transportation
• Collaborate with other drivers and transportation personnel to develop and implement daily routes as well as monthly planning of activity trips
• Communicate effectively and in a professional manner with parents and other stakeholders
• Maintain a route map in assigned bus and current copy with Transportation Director and Building Administrator
• Follow pick-up times as indicated on route sheets
• Maintain cleanliness of assigned bus (both inside and outside)
• Maintain a safe and orderly environment while driving the bus
