JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Bus Driver

Reports To: Director of Support Services

Primary Purpose: To ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Operate school bus that transports students and other authorized personnel toand from schools or other designated locations.

Qualifications:
  • Possess a valid Arkansas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
  • Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of student discipline procedure
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Ability to operate school bus
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
  2. Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
  3. Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify the mechanic in writing of needed repairs.
  4. Make written reports of all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures.
  5. Fuel bus and keep records on mileage, gas, oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.
  6. Keep assigned bus clean, sweep daily and water hose when necessary.
  7. Supervise students entering the bus, leaving the bus, and crossing streets or highways.
  8. Communicate with the building principals, assistant principals, teachers and parents regarding student behavior while on the bus.
  9. Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to the appropriate administrator.
  10. Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.
  11. Observe traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
  12. Do the required pre and post bus inspection before and after each trip.
  13. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kits, fire extinguisher, reflectors and etc.
  14. Report any hazardous condition along the route.
  15. Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office.
  16. Work irregular hours as needed.
  17. Attend and complete required bus driver training program to maintain safety certification.
  18. Ensure appropriate dress, appearance, and hygiene in the work area.
  19. Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Support Services.
