QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid New Jersey Commercial Driver License* with “S” endorsement.
Required criminal background check
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or legal resident alien status
Minimum of three (3) years previous safe driving experience
Sufficient mechanical aptitude to diagnose minor problems and make appropriate repairs.
Ability to maintain passenger discipline to ensure their safety and well-being and protect against vandalism.
Any other such qualifications that the Superintendent may find appropriate.
REPORTS TO:
Transportation Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
To transport students in a safe and efficient manner and perform all activities related to the operation of the school bus.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance to be reviewed at least once annually by the Transportation Manager based upon this job description.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts a pre-trip safety inspection of the bus prior to every trip and completes the School Bus Condition Report.
Notifies Transportation Manager of any mechanical malfunctions and/or safety hazards.
Adheres to established routes, designated bus stops and keeps to assigned time schedule.
Transports only authorized students.
Obeys all traffic laws and observes mandatory school bus safety regulations.
Checks the bus after every trip to make sure no children are left on the bus.
Maintains discipline on the bus and reports violations to the building principal or other authorized individual.
Reports all accidents and student injuries and completes required reports.
Participates in emergency evacuation drills in accordance with board policy and instructs passengers regarding safety regulation and other bus rules.
Performs interior bus cleaning duties daily, cleans windows and exterior as needed, and refuels the vehicle.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor, the Superintendent of Schools or his designee.
