Role: School Bus Driver

Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation, ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.

Salary Schedule: Based on route(s) and paid on a per day scale.

Qualifications:

• Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License.
• Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsement.
• Up-to-date DOT Physical within one year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safely operate a school bus on designated routes according to schedule, loading and unloading students at specified locations.
• Transport students, teachers, and others on field or activity trips.
• Inspect the bus daily to ensure it is in good, clean, and safe condition.
• Refuel and clean the bus as needed.
• Ensure communication devices are functional before trips.
• Report mechanical issues, traffic violations, or accidents promptly.
• Coordinate routine maintenance and transport buses for repairs.
• Maintain order and discipline among students, adhering to district policies.
• Monitor route timing and maintain records for efficiency analysis.
• Ensure no child is left unattended on the bus and all children have disembarked at route end.
• Inventory and report needs for emergency and first aid supplies.
• Participate in bus drills and emergency procedures.
• Attend training and professional development sessions.

Additional Duties:

• Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Equipment and Travel:

• Use standard automotive and bus equipment, and communication devices.
• Travel to district buildings, service stations, and trip locations as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of traffic laws, road signs, and regulations.
• Manual dexterity and physical ability to operate and inspect the bus.
• Good visual and auditory acuity.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow procedures and maintain composure in emergencies.
• Ability to establish cooperative relationships.

• Work in a standard school bus environment.
