Job summary

Alturas Academy in Idaho Falls is seeking a Part-Time School Bus Driver to transport students safely to and from school and activities. Driving pay is $32.00 per hour; dispatch/non-driving duties pay $22.00 per hour. A monthly $300 attendance bonus is offered.

Schedule: Mon-Thu 6:20 AM–8:20 AM and 2:45 PM–5:15 PM. Duties include pre/post trip inspections, record-keeping, and adherence to transportation regulations to ensure safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL with appropriate endorsements or ability to obtain required endorsements.
• Clean driving record and ability to pass background checks and transportation certification requirements.

Reports To: Transportation Director
Location: Alturas Academy, Idaho Falls, ID
Schedule: Monday-Thursday 6:20 AM - 8:20 AM, 2:45 PM - 5:15 PM
Pay Rate: $32.00 per hour while performing bus driver duties; $22.00 per hour while performing dispatch or other non-driving duties. A monthly $300 attendance bonus is offered.

Position Summary

The School Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school, field trips, extracurricular activities, and other school-sponsored events. This position requires a commitment to student safety, professionalism, reliability, and positive interactions with students, families, and staff.

At times, School Bus Drivers may also be asked to perform dispatch and other transportation-related administrative duties when they are not actively driving a bus. Bus driving duties are compensated at $32.00 per hour, while dispatch and other assigned non-driving duties are compensated at $22.00 per hour. Employees are expected to accurately record time worked according to the duties being performed.

Drivers and dispatch support staff are expected to maintain compliance with all transportation regulations while contributing to a culture of safety, support, and accountability.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student Transportation & Safety

• Safely transport students to and from school, field trips, athletic events, and other school-sponsored activities
• Follow designated routes, schedules, and transportation procedures
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for all students during transportation
• Monitor student behavior and address concerns in accordance with school policies
• Assist students as needed to ensure safe loading and unloading procedures
• Conduct emergency evacuation drills and follow emergency procedures when necessary

Vehicle Operations & Maintenance

• Conduct required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bus interior and exterior
• Report mechanical concerns, maintenance needs, accidents, or safety issues promptly
• Complete required vehicle inspection reports and transportation documentation
• Ensure all safety equipment is present and operational

Compliance & Documentation

• Adhere to all federal, state, local, and school transportation regulations
• Maintain required licenses, endorsements, certifications, and training requirements
• Complete transportation records, mileage logs, incident reports, and other required documentation accurately and on time
• Participate in required safety meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities

Communication & Professionalism

• Communicate professionally with students, families, staff, and administrators
• Serve as a positive representative of Alturas Academy while interacting with the community
• Collaborate with school staff and transportation personnel to support student needs and transportation operations
• Promptly communicate route concerns, delays, incidents, or safety issues to the Transportation Director

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements or ability to obtain required endorsements
• Clean driving record
• Ability to pass all required background checks, drug screenings, and transportation certification requirements
• Strong knowledge of Idaho traffic laws and school transportation safety standards
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Preferred Qualifications

• Acceptable driving record
• Commercial Driver’s License with Class B or Class A
• Passenger (P) Endorsement (or ability to obtain)
• School Bus (S) Endorsement (or ability to obtain)
• Previous school transportation or commercial driving experience
