Job summary

ReNEW Schools seeks a Bus Driver to provide safe, reliable transport for Greenwood students to and from school and district activities. You will perform safety inspections, operate the bus on assigned routes, and maintain a professional, supportive environment on board.

Qualifications include a valid Indiana CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsements, DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate, and ability to pass background checks. Prior bus driving is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school bus on routes and trips per laws and regulations.
• Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and daily safety inspections.
• Transport students to and from school and district events.
• Maintain a safe, orderly environment on the bus and enforce rules.
• Follow routes and schedules; adapt to changes as needed.
• Assist students, including those with disabilities, during loading/unloading.
• Operate wheelchair lifts and safety equipment as required.
• Maintain route logs and reports; report maintenance needs.
• Keep bus clean and fueled; coordinate with Transportation Department.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and communicate professionally.

STANDARD HOURS: Split Shift; Hours Vary by Route Assignment

Position Summary

The Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and timely transportation for Greenwood Community School Corporation students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and other district-sponsored events. The Bus Driver promotes a safe and positive environment while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and district transportation regulations and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes and activity trips in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Conduct required pre-trip, post-trip, and daily safety inspections of the assigned vehicle.
• Transport students safely and efficiently to and from school, field trips, athletic events, and other district-sponsored activities.
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment on the school bus by enforcing district transportation rules and expectations.
• Follow established routes, schedules, and transportation procedures while adapting to route changes when necessary.
• Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus, including students with disabilities or special transportation needs as required.
• Properly operate wheelchair lifts, child safety restraints, and other specialized transportation equipment when applicable.
• Maintain accurate route logs, inspection reports, mileage records, and other required documentation.
• Report accidents, student discipline concerns, vehicle maintenance issues, and safety hazards promptly to the Transportation Department.
• Keep the assigned bus clean, fueled, and in good operating condition by reporting maintenance needs in a timely manner.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and district information.
• Communicate professionally with students, parents, school personnel, and transportation staff.
• Attend required safety meetings, in-service training, certification renewals, and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid Indiana Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements, or the ability to obtain required licensure and endorsements.
• Valid Indiana Department of Education School Bus Driver Certification, or the ability to obtain certification.
• Current Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Examiner's Certificate.
• Successful completion of required background checks, drug and alcohol screenings, and driving record review.
• Previous commercial or school bus driving experience is preferred but not required.

• Ability to assist students during loading, unloading, and emergency evacuations.
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and tolerate prolonged sitting.
