Reports to: Coordinator of Transportation
General Definition of Work: Performs intermediate semi-skilled work driving a school bus, picking up and delivering students to/from school, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Coordinator of Transportation.
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; it regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, hand use, repetitive motions and occasional walking; standard vision, vocal and hearing requirements are necessary. Work involves visual inspection of small defects and/or parts, operating motor vehicles, exposure to outdoor weather and occasional airborne particles and bodily fluids. It is generally performed in a noisy environment (e.g., grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
High school diploma preferred or high school equivalency certificate required; minimal experience operating motorized equipment. General knowledge of operating a school bus, local geography and the location of streets; skill in safe operation of a school bus; ability to detect malfunctioning equipment; ability to assist children with patience and understanding; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, parents, students and the general public.
A valid commercial driver’s license with School Bus endorsement in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Amherst County Public Schools provides a training course to prepare candidates for the CDL assessment.
