Job summary

Broward County Public Schools in the Oakland Park area seeks a diligent Bus Attendant to support exceptional students during transportation. You will provide care and assistance, monitor behavior, and help ensure safe, orderly bus operations for daily routes.

Applicants must be 18+, fluent in English, complete 40 hours of preservice training, and demonstrate written-report ability. Computer skills are required; compensation ranges from $17.00 to $24.25 per hour, nonexempt, with the work location

• Prior to riding with students on a school bus, complete forty (40) hours of preservice training (20 hours classroom, 8 hours hands-on).
• Meet all requirements for Bus Attendant and complete eight (8) hours of in-service training in the preceding year.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Must possess basic comprehension and fluency in English.
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Possess sensitivity to the needs and feelings of individuals requiring special care.
• Ability to control student behavior to the extent necessary for the driver to safely perform the driving assignment required.
• Prior to riding with students on a school bus, each bus attendant shall meet the following requirements:
  • Successfully complete forty (40) hours of preservice training consisting of at least twenty (20) hours of classroom instruction and at least eight (8) hours of hands-on training based on Broward County School Board Bus Attendant curriculum or equivalent training as determined by responsible Director or designee.
  • Demonstrate the physical and mental capabilities required to carry out all assigned responsibilities as a Bus Attendant.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare required written reports.
• At the time of reappointment for the next school year, the bus attendant shall meet the following requirements:
  • Meet all requirements stipulated under qualifications for a Bus Attendant.
  • Successfully complete a minimum of eight (8) hours of in-service training within the preceding twelve (12) months or appropriate in-service training requirements as determined by responsible Director or designee.
• Computer skills as required for the position.
