Alpine School District is seeking a compassionate Transportation Para Bus Attendant to support special education students during transport and ensure safety and sanitation of vehicles.

The role requires physical ability to lift and move items, administer basic first aid, and coordinate with bus drivers and families to maintain safe transportation for students.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from seat height (16 inches) and move a 125-pound object as described in essential functions.
  • Administers first aid and medical assistance for ill or injured children.
  • Assists special education students during loading/unloading and maintains student safety.

Responsibilities

  • Assist, load, and unload students on and off buses; ensure safety during transport.
  • Instruct students on rules and safety expectations.
  • Monitor and support students with special needs during transport.
  • Prepare incident and other reports; communicate with staff and parents as needed.
  • Work closely with bus driver and parents to maintain safe transportation.

The job of Transportation Para Bus Attendant is done for the purpose/s of providing support within the student transportation services area with specific responsibilities for assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities; and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.

Essential Functions
  • Ability to pick up (from seat height of 16 inches) and carry a 50 pound object 35 feet within 20 seconds and drag a 125 pound object on the ground 50 feet within 30 seconds for the purpose of securing a child's safety.
  • Administers first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.
  • Assists special education students and other passengers/students for the purpose of providing safe loading and unloading from buses during normal transport and emergency situations.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules/regulations and maintaining student safety and well being.
  • Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations for the purpose of minimizing disruptions on bus and/or injury to involved parties.
  • Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
  • Prepares reports (e.g. incident reports, passenger misconduct, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, conveying information, and/or complying with established guidelines.
  • Reports observations and/or incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel for their action.
  • Secures students and/or their equipment (e.g. safety vests, wheel chair tie downs, seat belts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
  • Works closely with bus driver and student's parents for the purpose of maintaining services and safety.
  • Attends in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
General Requirements
  • Age 18+
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Read and speak English at a proficient level
