Job summary

West Des Moines Community Schools is seeking a Part-Time Bus Assistant in West Des Moines, IA. The role runs 4 hours daily, 7-9 am and 3-5 pm during the school year, with immediate starting date. You will assist the driver, help with safe loading/unloading, maintain order on the bus, and complete required training.

Responsibilities include reporting accidents, submitting incident reports, ensuring student safety, and helping operate adaptive equipment and lifts. AA/EEO Employer.

• Conduct safe and orderly loading and unloading of students.
• Maintain order and discipline on bus.
• Participate in all training pertaining to the job.
• Report all accidents immediately to the Transportation Supervisor or designee.
• Complete and submit student conduct/incident or other reports and documentation as required.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Provide support and instruction to students in order to understand school bus safety rules.
• Monitor students throughout the transportation bus route.
• Secure students and position students within bus, assist with operation of lift, secure wheel chair with appropriate tie-downs, and secure individuals with appropriate harnesses, operate all adaptive equipment assigned to the students and bus.
• Assist the driver in keeping bus clean.
• Complete all training as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
