Job summary

Scottsdale Unified School District is seeking a Bus Monitor to ensure safe loading and unloading of students, assist with special needs equipment, and monitor student behavior on routes.

This entry-level role requires a High School Diploma or GED, the ability to obtain First Aid and CPR within 30 days, and a DPS FPCC clearance. The position includes routine cleaning and safety checks and responding to parent inquiries with compassion.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to parent inquiries with compassion and understanding.
  • Performs other duties of similar nature.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

POSITION OBJECTIVE: This is the first level in the series. Incumbents are responsible for monitoring and securing special needs and other students. Monitors bus equipment use and student behavior and safety.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

  • Ensures the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations, to include operation of specialized equipment for attending to students with special needs, including car seats, wheelchairs, seat belts, lifts, and/or other applicable equipment.
  • Monitors daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct at all times, and adherence to appropriate disciplinary controls.
  • Performs routine cleaning and bus maintenance activities, to include attending to spills and cleaning of body fluids.
  • Responds to and/or resolves inquiries and/or concerns from parents, demonstrating compassion and understanding.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):

High School Diploma, or G.E.D.; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications within 30 days of employment;
  • Ability to complete wheelchair and special needs handling training.
  • Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 125 pounds of force for testing, up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, and extreme temperatures.
