Job summary

Transdev North America in Elmira, NY is seeking a Part Time Bus Aide to help ensure safe, comfortable transportation for school children. You will monitor passengers, assist with loading/unloading, and participate in safety checks. Excellent communication and a flexible schedule are required.

The role offers part-time, split AM/PM shifts, year-round work aligned with school calendars, and no benefits. Candidates must be 21+, pass pre-employment checks, and be able to work outdoors in varying

Job description

We are currently on the lookout for a Part Time Bus Aide to join our elite team in Elmira, NY. As a key member, you will be entrusted with assisting in ensuring safe and comfortable transportation for our school children, while upholding the highest standards of professionalism and customer service.

• This is a part time position so there are no benefits

Policy. Key Responsibilities

• Knows the route and remains alert to monitor the welfare of passengers while in route
• Communicates behavior problems and conditions of various stops with the driver
• Assists in pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus
• Assists students in the loading and unloading process
• Cooperates and communicates with school personnel, students, and parents
• Attends all safety and training meetings
• Conducts emergency evacuation from the bus, including use of exiting by emergency door
• Opens and closes service doors and moves up and down steps multiple times daily
• Cleans the insides of the bus including sweeping, dusting and cleaning windows. Cleans outside windows of the bus.
• Assists driver when necessary to safely direct the vehicle backwards
• Other specialized functions as required by contract.

Qualifications

• 21 years or older
• Excellent communication & customer service skills.
• Must be able to work shifts or flexible workschedules as needed.

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position require the ability to:

• Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions – 100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
• Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces.
• Push and pull objects up to 25 pounds, occasionally throughout the workday; lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level.
• Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.

Drug-free Workplace

• Successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
