Job summary

BICO Steel in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a skilled Burn Table Operator to operate CNC-controlled plasma and oxy-fuel cutting tables, cutting steel plates to precise specifications and ensuring quality.

The ideal candidate will read blueprints, set up cutting programs, monitor processes, and maintain safety and productivity. Nights shift M-TH 2:30pm-1am with a $2 shift premium and competitive hourly wages.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience operating CNC plasma or oxy-fuel burn tables in a steel or fabrication environment.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand measurements, tolerances, and material requirements.
• Basic computer skills for operating CNC software and entering job data.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Ability to lift heavy materials and work in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC burn tables (plasma and/or oxy-fuel) to cut steel materials according to blueprints and work orders
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and job specifications accurately
• Set up cutting programs, adjust machine settings, and monitor cutting processes
• Inspect finished parts for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on burn table equipment
• Load and unload steel plates using overhead cranes or forklifts (as required)
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company policies
• Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines and efficiency goals
• Track and report material usage, scrap, and job completion data

Job Summary

BICO Steel is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Burn Table Operator to operate CNC-controlled plasma and/or oxy-fuel cutting tables. The ideal candidate will be responsible for cutting steel plates to precise specifications, ensuring quality standards are met, and maintaining production efficiency.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a steel service center or fabrication shop
• Certification or training in CNC operations or metal fabrication
• Experience using overhead cranes and/or forklifts
• Familiarity with nesting software or CNC programming
• Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Strong focus on safety and compliance
• Time management and ability to prioritize tasks
• Teamwork and communication skills
• Reliability and consistency in attendance and performance

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and industrial materials
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Requires manual dexterity and stamina
• Use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection
