Job summary

Martin Sprocket & Gear, a leading maker of mechanical power transmission components, is hiring a burn table operator for the 2nd shift. You will load/unload parts, adjust settings, operate the cutting torch, monitor the process, and help maintain a safe, efficient work area.

Candidates should have burn table experience cutting ¾” to 8-1/2” materials, basic English communication, ability to read process sheets, and willingness to stand for long shifts in a non-climate-controlled environment.

Qualifications

  • Burn table experience cutting materials ¾” to 8-1/2” in a manufacturing environment or equivalent schooling is required.
  • Ability to read process sheets, blueprints, or follow verbal instructions from supervision.
  • Basic English communication and ability to complete logs and reports in English.
  • Physically able to lift, push, pull and position heavy components.

Responsibilities

  • Load/unload parts onto burn table and adjust table settings.
  • Load/unload cutting torch and monitor the cutting process.
  • Follow production instructions to complete tasks accurately.
  • Inspect cuts for quality and finish as needed with grinding tools.
  • Maintain machine and workspace safety and cleanliness.
  • Provide cross-functional support as needed to meet production goals.
  • Inspect finished work for tolerances and quality standards.

Job description

What You’ll Do
  • Role: You will be responsible for loading and unloading parts onto the burn table, adjusting the table settings, loading and unloading the cutting torch, and monitoring the cutting process.
  • Production Task Execution: Follow process sheets, blueprints, or verbal instructions from the supervisor to complete production tasks accurately.
  • Material Handling: Maneuver large or heavy parts manually or with the assistance of a crane or forklift as required.
  • Inspection & Finishing: Inspect cuts throughout the process for quality, using grinding tools as necessary to achieve desired finishes.
  • Machine & Workspace Maintenance: Keep machines and work areas clean and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Quality Control: Inspect finished work to ensure it meets predetermined tolerances and standards.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Assist in other areas or departments as assigned to meet production needs.
What You’ll Bring
  • Burn Table Experience: Prior experience using burn table to cut materials ¾” to 8-1/2” in within a manufacturing environment or equivalent technical schooling is required.
  • Additional Welding Skills: Experience with welding is a plus.
  • Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with grinding tools, drill presses, and ironwork is advantageous.
  • Communication & Documentation: Basic oral communication skills; ability to read and understand written instructions in English and complete basic logs and reports in English.
  • Physical Capability: Physically able to lift, push, pull, and position heavy components as required.
  • Attendance & Compliance: Ability to work scheduled hours and adhere to company timekeeping and all other policies.
  • Shift Endurance: Ability to consistently stand for the entire duration of the shift in a non-climate-controlled environment.
  • Mechanical Knowledge: General mechanical knowledge is beneficial.
  • Team Orientation: Able to work cooperatively with others and contribute as a team player.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrates accuracy and reliability in all tasks.
Your Schedule
  • 2nd Shift - Monday - Friday 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
