Job summary

Morton Salt, Inc. is hiring a Category Analyst to plan, source, and negotiate transportation services for bulk truck transport. You will drive the lowest total cost to serve while ensuring carrier KPIs, SLAs, and contracts are met.

The role involves preparing data for RFx activities, developing category strategies, managing supplier performance, and providing freight expense estimates for new business and projects. Travel is ~15% yearly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred, with 5 years of experience in Supply Chain/Operations or 3 years in transportation/shipment execution and/or freight procurement.
• Experience with SAP, WMS or TMS, and data analytics tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication; able to interact with all levels.
• Ability to work independently and across functional teams.
• Ability to influence and build consensus across Supply Chain and other functions.

Responsibilities

• Procure and execute bulk truck transport for the company.
• Collaborate with sales and marketing to respond to forecast changes and trends.
• Review and correct freight bills; perform root-cause analysis and provide contractual details for discrepancies.
• Monitor supplier performance and cost metrics; resolve service issues.
• Forecast and analyze costs vs. budget; support cost reduction initiatives.
• Develop tools, templates and processes to improve operations.
• Prepare RFIs, RFPs and RFQs; lead negotiations for competitive rates.
• Coordinate with Legal on contract requirements.
• Interface with internal and external customers and senior leadership.
• Lead projects and communicate findings to logistics, manufacturing, and others.
