POSITION SUMMARY
Primary customers are hospitals, commercial food processors, and various government agencies. The job requires long hours while remaining DOT compliant. It offers a set schedule with 2 consecutive days off, including night shifts, weekends, holidays, and extended stays as needed. The position is primarily local, but candidates must be able to adjust to schedule changes as needs arise. Under the supervision of the local Terminal Manager, the Bulk Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of commercial motor vehicles owned and/or operated by Matheson Tri Gas. The ultimate responsibility is the safe handling of liquefied Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Argon gases to Matheson Tri Gas customer locations and production facilities as assigned. This position reports to the Terminal Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safe loading and unloading of cryogenic liquids (oxygen, nitrogen, and argon).
- Practice safe driving techniques daily while operating Matheson Tri Gas vehicles to prevent work-related accidents and injuries.
- Report all accidents and unsafe acts/conditions (near misses) during duties.
- Comply with all company and customer safety policies, procedures, and employment policies.
- Understand all standard operating procedures, departmental work instructions, and local work instructions affecting duties.
- Complete and submit all required regulatory compliance and company documents per policies and procedures.
- Communicate accurately and timely with relevant individuals/departments regarding customer service, scheduling delays, site discrepancies, equipment defects, and other operational issues.
- Develop a good working knowledge of the Xatanet communication system and fleet advisor software.
- Obtain and understand scheduling information from dispatchers and planners, and adhere to schedule instructions.
- Communicate scheduling delays or unforeseen circumstances impacting operations.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demonstrate professional standards in duties performed.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with all Matheson Tri Gas customers.
- Report for duty ready to work at the assigned time.
- Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two years tractor and semi-trailer experience, with verification of experience.
- Class A driver’s license with endorsements for hazardous materials, tanker, and air brakes.
- Safe driving record and competence in handling a commercial motor vehicle, demonstrated during pre-employment road test.
- Ability to drive manual transmission.
- Ability to work a five-day schedule per FMCSA hours of service rules.
- Physical ability to stand, lift, and stoop as required for inspections, loading, and unloading.
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, extended stays, and to adapt to schedule changes.
- Understanding and willingness to comply with FMCSA guidelines.
- Ability to operate delivery and loading equipment in all weather conditions.
- Capability to acquire competency in safe handling of cryogenic liquids.
