Job summary

SME Careers in remote U.S.-based projects seeks a Bulgarian Language Expert to review AI-generated content and craft high-quality Bulgarian references. You will assess language quality, provide precise feedback, write rewrites, and model answers to improve accuracy and tone across domains.

The role requires native-level Bulgarian, strong English (C1), and 3+ years in writing/editing/translation. It’s an hourly, contractor position with global time-zone flexibility and open candidate pool

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Linguistics, Bulgarian Language, Bulgarian Literature, English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Native or near-native Bulgarian proficiency, with strong reading and writing skills required.
• Strong professional proficiency in English, minimum C1, to follow guidelines and provide detailed feedback in English.
• 3+ years of professional experience in writing, editing, localization, translation, content QA, journalism, education, or related language-focused work.
• Deep understanding of Bulgarian grammar, spelling conventions, punctuation, Cyrillic script, definite articles, verb aspect, verb tense, mood, word order, tone, and style- able to explain why something is wrong and how to fix it.
• Comfortable handling multiple registers, including formal, neutral, conversational, professional, educational, and public-facing Bulgarian, depending on audience and project requirements.
• High attention to detail when spotting subtle meaning shifts, awkward literal translations, incorrect article usage, verb-aspect errors, hallucinated claims, Russian- or English-influenced phrasing, or culturally mismatched wording.
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to deliver consistent quality in an hourly, remote contractor workflow across time zones.
• Prior experience with AI data training/annotation, translation QA, editorial QA, localization QA, or rubric-based evaluation is strongly preferred.

Job description

Pay: up to $20/hour

In this hourly, remote contractor role, you will work as a Bulgarian Language Expert (SME) to review AI-generated Bulgarian content and/or create high-quality Bulgarian reference content, evaluating language quality and step-by-step reasoning while providing precise written feedback. You will assess outputs for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural appropriateness, and adherence to the prompt; identify errors in meaning, mistranslation, register, ambiguity, unnatural phrasing, terminology, and logical consistency; fact-check claims when needed; write high-quality rewrites and model answers that demonstrate best practices in Bulgarian writing; and rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and overall quality.
