Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years designing and managing complex Structured Cabling systems in AEC or related tech infrastructure.
  • BICSI RCDD certification strongly preferred; additional certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership, design guidance, and coordination for Structured Cabling across projects.
  • Lead large-scale building technology projects, manage scope, budget, schedule, staffing, and quality.
  • Mentor staff and develop a high-performing engineering/design team.
  • Coordinate design discussions with clients, architects, and contractors from design through construction close-out.
  • Maintain QA/QC, review submittals, RFIs, and ensure compliance with NEC, IBC, NFPA, and BICSI standards.

This Opportunity

WSP is seeking an experienced Building Technology Systems - Assistant Vice President (Structured Cabling) to join our Building Technology Systems team in New York. This leadership role will be responsible for technical excellence, project delivery, client engagement, and business development across a diverse portfolio of local, national, and international projects.

About the Job

Our team supports the design and integration of future-ready telecommunications infrastructure that enables connected, intelligent, and resilient buildings. We work on high-quality, high-profile, local, national, and international projects.

You will actively participate in the complete project cycle, from the design phase through the final construction close-out. Project verticals include, but are not limited to: financial services, healthcare, corporate, residential, stadium and large venue, mission critical/data center, education and government/federal. Our Engineers are subject matter experts who can effectively communicate and coordinate technical topics with owners, architects, other engineers, contractors and vendors.

This is a hybrid role. The successful candidate must be able to commute to the New York, NY office approximately 1-2 days a week. In-office presence will be determined by business, project, and client needs.

Ability and willingness to travel nationally and occasionally internationally based on client and business needs.

Your Impact
Technical Excellence and Leadership
  • Provide technical leadership, design guidance, and coordination for Structured Cabling systems, serving as a subject matter expert for clients and colleagues while driving technical excellence in project delivery, standards development, and design innovation.
  • Lead large-scale building technology projects and multidisciplinary teams, managing scope, budget, schedule, staffing, and quality to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Manage project financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, utilization, billing, and profitability.
  • Mentor and develop staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Remain current with industry trends, emerging technologies, standards, certifications, and best practices.
Project Lifecycle
  • Lead design discussions with clients and design team members to gather and document system and design requirements.
  • Coordinate the integration of technology and building systems within structured cabling infrastructure designs, including telecommunications spaces, pathways, and infrastructure requirements, with internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Develop design narratives and provide oversight of coordinated construction documents, including drawings and CSI specifications.
  • Coordinate and lead project meetings with clients, project stakeholders, and design teams, both locally and nationally.
  • Review and respond to technology system submittals and RFIs using industry standard digital platforms (Procore, Newforma, ACC, etc.).
  • Perform and/or provide oversight for site surveys to document construction progress and create field reports.
Marketing and Business Development
  • Develop and execute business development strategies, strengthen client relationships, and identify new opportunities to grow the Building Technology Systems practice.
  • Develop trusted advisor relationships with key clients and prospects, serving as a primary point of contact to identify opportunities, win new work, and support long‑term client retention.
  • Lead proposal and fee development in response to requests for proposals.
Required Qualifications
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 10+ years of experience designing and managing complex Structured Cabling systems within the AEC consulting industry or related technology infrastructure environments.
  • BICSI RCDD certification strongly preferred; additional industry certifications are a plus.
Technical Expertise
  • Highly proficient with Structured Cabling design principles, practices, processes, and associated application to projects and design team coordination.
  • Experience designing telecommunications infrastructure including entrance facilities, MDF/IDF spaces, backbone and horizontal cabling systems, pathways, and associated support infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills, with expertise in performing technical calculations, interpreting plans and specifications, analyzing testing and performance data, and applying Structured Cabling principles and industry standards to develop effective, compliant, and cost‑efficient solutions.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, engineering calculations, data analysis, and design software platforms including AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and BIM workflows sufficient to support project coordination and quality reviews.
  • Strong knowledge of local and national codes, regulations, compliance practices, record‑keeping requirements, and industry standards (NEC, IBC, NFPA, BICSI, EIA/TIA) related to the design and operation of telecommunications systems.
Project Delivery
  • Experience coordinating with architects, MEP engineers, owners, contractors, and IT stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Extensive experience with building planning, design, and installation management, including project involvement in a variety of renovation and new design projects.
  • Experience planning and conducting inspections and investigations of equipment, facilities, and systems, with the ability to coordinate and direct subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant project execution.
Leadership & Client Engagement
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical oversight to engineering and design staff, ensuring the quality, consistency, and compliance of project deliverables through rigorous QA/QC processes.
  • Experience drafting and developing proposal language and related fees for new project work.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex design information and collaborate persuasively with clients, project managers, and technical and non‑technical stakeholders at all organizational levels.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $143,600 - $196,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
