Job summary

Join our Facilities Management team as a Facilities Programs Administrator and help keep Minnesota Department of Health buildings safe, running smoothly, and following all the rules. This is a great chance to lead projects like repairs and upgrades, improve building systems, and make daily operations better — all of which directly help public health. Key responsibilities include:
  • Manage and coordinate maintenance, repairs, and building upgrades to make sure they’re done on time, within budget, and meet goals.
  • Keep an eye on building systems like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical to make sure they’re working well and prevent problems before they happen.
  • Look at how space is used and how work gets done, then suggest ways to make better use of space and improve efficiency.
  • Make sure all facilities meet safety codes and regulations by doing regular checks and working with inspectors.
  • Prepare reports and updates to share progress, issues, and results with the team and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

Two (2) years of experience working with facility operations, building systems, maintenance, construction projects, or similar activities. This experience must also include at least three of the following:

  • Helped run facility systems like heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing, or building automation.
  • Managed or supported maintenance programs, including scheduling regular upkeep and making sure systems stay reliable.
  • Performed inspections or checks of buildings to ensure safety, code compliance, and regulations are met.
  • Supported or helped manage construction, renovations, or upgrades to buildings.
  • Used facility management software, such as work order systems or building control systems, to track and report on building operations.
Qualifications to be further assessed during the interview process
  • Good at coordinating multiple projects and working with different teams and contractors.
  • Able to build good working relationships with staff, vendors, and other teams.
  • Able to handle busy workloads and prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Clear communicator who can explain technical info to both experts and non‑experts.

A related degree will substitute for experience as follows:

Bachelor's degree may substitute for one year of experience; associate degree may substitute for six months of experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience making sure buildings follow safety codes and passing inspections from local, state, or federal agencies.
  • Hands‑on experience managing big construction, renovation, or upgrade projects in a facilities setting.
  • Experience with advanced facility management software like ARCHIBUS, Maximo, or similar tools to track assets, schedule maintenance, and generate reports.
  • Experience putting sustainability, energy saving, or environmental practices into action within facility operations.
  • Experience working with specialized facilities like labs or clean rooms, including managing critical systems like HVAC, electrical, and environmental controls to keep things running smoothly and meet regulatory standards.
Physical Requirements

This position will occasionally need to access or work in/around tight spaces. Must be comfortable with accessing roofs/penthouses and must have the ability to climb ships ladders where necessary.
