Job summary

Crawford Thomas Recruiting is seeking an Energy Systems Engineer in Vancouver, WA to design and deploy energy monitoring and submetering systems across commercial and industrial facilities.

The role focuses on the front end of engineering: assessing facilities, understanding electrical and mechanical systems, determining what should be monitored, and designing the infrastructure needed to capture accurate energy data.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3+ years in building systems, controls, commissioning, energy engineering.
  • Experience with metering, submetering, or data acquisition.
  • Ability to travel 25–50%.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct onsite facility audits of electrical, mechanical, gas, and water systems.
  • Identify loads, existing infrastructure, and opportunities for energy monitoring.
  • Design submetering and energy data acquisition for facilities.
  • Determine meter locations, sensors, CTs, PTs, gateways, and related equipment.
  • Develop system layouts, point lists, and technical deployment documents.
  • Design integrations between meters, building systems, and monitoring platforms.
  • Work with BACnet, Modbus, BAS, BMS, and other building communication systems.
  • Coordinate with contractors, vendors, PM and internal teams during installation.
  • Support commissioning and verify communications, mapping, scaling, data accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot metering, controls, and system integration issues in the field.
  • Serve as technical contact for customers during site assessments and implementation.

ENERGY SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Vancouver, WA Salary: $88,000–$110,000 annually + up to 10% Gain Share

Seeking an Energy Systems Engineer to help design and deploy energy monitoring and submetering systems across commercial and industrial facilities.

This role is focused heavily on the front end of the engineering process: assessing facilities, understanding electrical and mechanical systems, determining what should be monitored, and designing the infrastructure needed to capture accurate energy data. What You'll Do
  • Conduct onsite facility audits and assess electrical, mechanical, gas, and water systems
  • Identify major loads, existing infrastructure, and opportunities for energy monitoring
  • Design submetering and energy data acquisition systems for commercial and industrial facilities
  • Determine appropriate meter locations, sensors, CTs, PTs, gateways, and related equipment
  • Develop system layouts, points lists, and technical documentation for field deployment
  • Design integrations between meters, building systems, and monitoring platforms

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in building systems, controls, commissioning, energy engineering, MEP, or facility engineering
  • Strong understanding of commercial or industrial electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience conducting facility assessments, system audits, commissioning, or field engineering work
  • Experience with metering, submetering, controls, building automation, or data acquisition systems
  • Understanding of CT/PT fundamentals and electrical metering concepts
  • Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, BAS, BMS, or similar building integration technologies
  • Ability to read electrical one-lines, panel schedules, system diagrams, and technical drawings
  • Strong engineering judgment and hands‑on troubleshooting ability
  • Comfortable working directly with customers, contractors, and internal project teams
  • Willingness to travel approximately ~25–50%
Preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, processing, distribution, or other complex facilities
  • Background in building automation, controls, commissioning, MEP, or systems integration
  • Experience designing or deploying electrical, gas, or water submetering systems
  • Certified Energy Manager, EIT, PE, commissioning, BAS, or controls certifications
  • Associates degree with 5+ years of directly relevant field implementation experience may be considered in place of a bachelor’s degree
Compensation And Benefits
