Job summary

The Salvation Army Harbor Light Mission is seeking a dedicated supervisor to oversee daily operations at the Harbor Light facility in Detroit. You will supervise staff and ensure safety and efficiency while maintaining accurate records and supporting the care team.

The role requires strong communication, high school diploma, and at least two years of supervisory experience, plus knowledge of addiction recovery to align with mission policies.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years practical experience as a Supervisor.
  • Working knowledge of addiction recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of the Harbor Light facility.
  • Support Specialists and supervise staff, clients, residents, and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding supervised staff.
  • Provide supervision, training, direction and assistance to staff.
  • Investigate all serious occurrences during shifts and communicate them to the Site Operations Supervisor.
  • Summarize and record the shift report in the daily log.

Job description

Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Harbor Light facility and support specialists ensuring the overall efficient, effective, and safe operation of the facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take control of the facility by walking around observing people, property and events taking place
  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding supervised staff
  • Monitor staff, clients, residents, church members and visitors
  • Give supervision, training, direction and assistance to the Support Specialists
  • Assist staff in maintaining order and efficiency in the performance of their responsibilities
  • Investigate all serious occurrences/issues that take place during the shift
  • Communicate verbally and in writing, to the Site Operations Supervisor, all serious occurrences/issues that take place during the shift on the next business day
  • Summarize and record the shift report in the daily log

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively through spoken and written word
  • TB Test and police clearance required
  • Authorization to work in the United States

Education/Experience:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years practical experience as a Supervisor
  • Possess a working knowledge of addiction recovery

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, email and internet
  • Experience using electronic medical records system preferred
  • Reasoning Ability:
  • Understand and work within The Salvation Army and Harbor Light Mission Statements
  • Possess an excellent working knowledge of The Harbor Light Policies and Procedures
  • Certificates and Licenses:
  • None required
  • Physical Demands :
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Frequent walking, bending and standing for long periods of time
  • Capability to inspect packages, equipment, and fixtures, as well as observe people and events
  • Ability to hear and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Office setting
  • Continuous movement from unit to unit
  • In addition: Must be highly organized, motivated, a self starter with the ability to multi-task, be creative.
