Job summary

Ashland University Bookstore is seeking a Building Service Worker to clean and maintain living facilities, dining areas, restrooms, classrooms, and offices on campus. You will also replenish supplies, handle waste, and ensure safety in cleaning operations.

The role requires mobility, ability to operate cleaning equipment, and flexibility with changing priorities. Weekend availability is appreciated, with an anticipated start date to be determined by the university.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain living facilities, dining areas, laundry areas, restrooms, shower areas, classrooms and offices.
• Replenish soap and paper products.
• Remove trash and recycling from buildings while replacing liners.
• Sweep, mop and clean floors and stairwells.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.
• Dust furniture, wash walls and windows.
• Clean outside steps and entryways (may include snow removal).
• Move heavy furniture, supplies and equipment.
• Burnish, refinish and strip tile and terrazzo flooring.
• Report items in need of repair and order supplies.
• Perform related or special duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Job Description

• Cleaning and maintaining living facilities, dining areas, laundry areas, restrooms, shower areas, classrooms and offices.
• Replenishing soap and paper products.
• Removing trash and recycling from buildings while replacing liners in the trash and recycling containers.
• Sweeping, mopping and cleaning floors and stairwells.
• Vacuuming and shampooing carpeted areas.
• Dusting furniture, washing walls and windows.
• Cleaning outside steps and entryways (may include snow removal from entryways).
• Moving heavy furniture, supplies and equipment.
• Burnishing, refinishing and stripping tile and terrazzo flooring.
• Reporting items in need of repair and ordering supplies.
• Performing related or special duties as assigned by a supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demands

• Exposure to external temperatures during the cleaning of entrances or around the perimeter of the building and exposure to heat/humidity during summer months.
• Ability to lift boxes, trash, ladders and equipment.
• Ability to perform tasks in high, low and confined spaces.
• Exposure to chemicals in cleaning products, dust, dirt and germs.
