Job summary

City of Atlanta is seeking a Permit Technician to provide administrative and technical support for permitting, plan review, inspections, and general operations. You will assist applicants, verify plan accuracy, and coordinate permit issuance while delivering top-tier customer service.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with 3–5 years at a permit counter; an Associate degree or vocational training is preferred, and ICC certification is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED plus 3–5 years responsible administrative experience at a building permit counter.
• Associate degree or vocational training in construction, building inspections or related fields preferred.
• ICC Permit Technician certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interviews and provides information to applicants regarding building permit and general requirements of the permit process.
• Reviews plans, permit applications, and other pertinent information at the public counter to verify accuracy and compliance with codes, ordinances, policies, and procedures.
• Routes plans to appropriate agencies for approval.
• Receives and assembles approved plans.
• Coordinate issuance of building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and other related permits.
• Collaborate with customers to schedule inspections.
• Maintains computer files and other logs for building permits and related documents; operate office equipment.
• Updates and maintains contractor registration files for current licensing requirements.
• Performs records research to document project history compliance and coordinates permit processes with outside agencies.
• Use architectural and engineering scale to determine dimensions and calculate areas and percentages.
