The City of Centerton is seeking a dedicated Permit Clerk to join the city staff in Centerton, AR. This entry-level role handles issuing building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits, schedules and posts inspections, and maintains daily public contact.
The clerk will process permit applications, calculate fees, and support building officials. You will assist residents with applications, explain permit requirements, and ensure accurate data entry and record keeping in BSA Software.
Permit Clerk is an entry-level position responsible for issuing permits, scheduling and posting inspections. The position issues building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits on a daily basis. Has daily contact with the public and responds to request or inquiries regarding permits. May receive phone calls and determine the nature of the business and direct phone calls or visitors to appropriate destination.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Deputy Building Inspector/Clerk.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

High School diploma or equivalent and/or one (1) years related experience to permit processing and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to comprehend general construction terminology.
Basic applied mathematics and simple accounting procedures. Principles and techniques of problem solving and conflict-resolution. Computer software applications and database management. Modern office procedures and practices including correct punctuation, spelling, grammatical usage, filing, indexing and cross-referencing methods. Operation of standard office machines, including calculators, computers, copiers, and fax machines.
Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
