The Price College of Engineering ( PCE ) occupies approximately 650,000 square feet and will expand by an additional 316,000 square feet when the Price Computing and Engineering Building opens in December. The scale and complexity of the resulting relocations, space transitions, and preparation of vacated areas require a dedicated Building Operations Specialist to support the College. This position is not intended to replace or duplicate the responsibilities of University of Utah Facilities Management related to the day-to-day maintenance and operation of PCE buildings.
Reporting directly to the Manager of Facilities Planning and Capital Projects, the Building Operations Specialist will coordinate the movement of personnel, equipment, and furnishings across multiple departments and buildings. The position will serve as a College-wide resource, working closely with departments and University service units to facilitate efficient relocations, prepare spaces for new occupants and uses, and support the effective use of PCE facilities.
The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a higher education setting, facilities management, or project management. The candidate will be well organized, possess strong communication skills, and be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This position involves moving equipment, furnishings, and other physical items. The ability to lift, bend, and move items, with or without reasonable accommodation, is an essential function of the role.
Serve as the building liaison on behalf of the building occupants and departments by submitting work orders and ensuring proposed modifications are properly reviewed and aligned with PCE’s and/or departmental needs.
Coordinate with the Facility Security Office ( FSO ) to ensure all required facility procedures are in place when restricted meetings are held.
Manage the physical movement of personnel, equipment, furnishings, and other departmental assets between buildings and spaces, and work closely with University services to ensure space transitions are completed efficiently and on schedule.
Establish and maintain building-specific procedures and operational documentation.
Coordinate the preparation of vacated offices, laboratories, and other spaces for the incoming occupants, which may include scheduling chemical disposal and/or pickup with Environmental Health and Safety. This position will not be responsible for handling hazardous chemicals or biological agents.
Coordinate building access requests, including keys and card access, in accordance with University procedures.
Serve as the primary contact for deliveries to the loading dock and coordinate delivery to the final location.
Attend training on classroom and event-space audiovisual equipment and assist users with its operation.
Assist with the setup and breakdown of event spaces, including moving tables and chairs. This may require after-hours work; work schedules will be adjusted accordingly.
