Job summary

Aoka is seeking a Certified Building Official (CBO) in San Antonio to lead building inspectors and serve as a key SME for the sales team. You will drive code enforcement initiatives, oversee permit issuance, and guide projects from planning to compliance in a high-stakes municipal environment.

The ideal candidate brings 5–7 years of progressive inspection experience, strong leadership, and excellent communication skills to ensure safe, compliant construction across our client projects.

Responsibilities

• Supervise building inspectors and manage inspection programs.
• Serve as SME supporting the sales team.
• Visit sites for complex or escalated projects.
• Enforce municipal, state, and federal codes and safety standards.
• Oversee permits, plan approvals, occupancy certificates, and reports.
• Interpret codes and guide architects, engineers, contractors, and owners.
• Collaborate with related departments for coordinated enforcement.
• Maintain records and prepare inspection and permitting reports.

What You’ll Do

• Supervise building inspectors and manage inspection programs
• Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the sales team
• Conduct client visits as needed for complex or escalated projects
• Administer and enforce municipal, state, and federal building codes, safety, energy, and accessibility standards
• Oversee issuance of building permits, plan approvals, occupancy certificates, and inspection reports
• Interpret complex codes and provide guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners
• Collaborate with fire, planning, zoning, engineering, and public works departments for coordinated code enforcement
• Manage appeals, code updates, and ordinance revisions
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on inspections, permitting, and code compliance

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in building inspection required
• Proven leadership and supervisory experience
• Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex code-related issues under pressure
