Job summary

The University of Rochester is hiring for a skilled trades worker to repair and maintain mechanical equipment and building utilities at our Rochester campus. The role requires a high school diploma and 2–4 years of hands-on mechanical or building trades experience.

You will read blueprints, fix electrical/plumbing lines, and balance heating systems while working under supervision and following safety regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 2–4 years experience in a mechanical/building trades or related environment.
• Ability to read and write English and perform mathematical calculations.
• Depending on functional area, may require a valid motor vehicle operator's license and the ability to operate vehicles safely.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and maintains mechanical equipment and building utilities.
• Disassembles, replaces components, reassembles and aligns items to tolerance.
• Repairs electrical and plumbing lines and fixtures as needed.
• Maintains heating systems and balances systems using controls.
• Receives service requests and initiates requisitions for parts and supplies.
• Works from blueprints and sketches and follows verbal instructions.
• Keeps records of daily work and prepares reports.
• Complies with safety regulations and maintains a clean work area.
• Performs other duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility.
