Job summary

Devine Management Consulting in Nantucket, MA seeks a senior Merchandising and Purchasing leader to manage product assortment and pricing across key building material categories. You will analyze sales, margins, and inventory to guide decisions and build vendor relationships while traveling between locations.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years in building materials or related distribution, strong category management and ERP/POS reporting experience, and the ability to lead cross-location

• Strong ability to analyze sales and inventory data for decisions.
• Experience reporting via ERP or POS systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage product assortment, purchasing strategy, and pricing across key building material categories.
• Analyze sales, margin, and inventory data to guide purchasing and merchandising decisions.
• Develop strategies to improve product performance, sales growth, and profitability.
• Build and maintain vendor relationships, negotiating pricing, rebates, and promotions.
• Monitor inventory levels and product movement to maintain optimal stock levels.
• Collaborate with branch and department leaders on sales performance, assortment, and pricing.
• Develop and maintain reporting tools and dashboards using POS or ERP systems.
• Conduct regular location visits to evaluate product availability and merchandising standards.
• Monitor market trends and customer demand to adjust product mix and purchasing strategy.

Job description

Annual Salary is $100K - 150K (DOE)

Key Responsibilities

• Manage product assortment, purchasing strategy, and pricing across key building material categories
• Analyze sales, margin, and inventory data to guide purchasing and merchandising decisions
• Develop strategies to improve product performance, sales growth, and profitability
• Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, negotiating pricing, rebates, and promotional programs
• Monitor inventory levels and product movement to maintain optimal stock levels across locations
• Collaborate with branch and department leaders to review sales performance, product assortment, and pricing strategy
• Develop and maintain reporting tools and dashboards using POS or ERP systems to support leadership decision-making
• Conduct regular location visits to evaluate product availability, merchandising standards, and inventory performance
• Monitor market trends and customer demand to adjust product mix and purchasing strategy

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in building materials, lumber supply, hardware distribution, or contractor supply retail
• Strong background in category management, purchasing, inventory planning, or product merchandising
• Proven ability to manage sales performance, margins, and inventory turnoverExperience negotiating with vendors and managing supplier relationships
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales and inventory data
• Experience working with ERP or POS systems for reporting and inventory management
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to travel between locations as needed
• Valid driver's license required
