Location: The Salvation Army – Shreveport, LA Corps

Position Title: Building Maintenance Worker

About this opportunity:

Performs routine repairs and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and vehicles; performs routine groundskeeping work to ensure the beautification of the landscape; performs minor plumbing and carpentry repair work; regularly cleans building and sanitizes as necessary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor pluming repairs required by leaking faucets and clogged toilets.
  • Performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls, assists in minor restructures such as putting in new plywood walls in existing buildings; participates in the painting of walls.
  • Replaces lightbulbs as needed.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of Salvation Army vehicles; monitors and replenishes all fluid levels.
  • Maintains the grounds to include mowing grass, trimming hedges, blowing leaves, and collecting debris; maintains the beautification of the grounds.
  • Sweeps, vacuums, strips, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks.
  • Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.
  • Monitors activities and visitors of building and grounds to ensure security.
  • Cleans surroundings after each repair job; ensures that all tools are collected and surroundings are left neat and clean.
  • Monitors lighting and changes light bulbs when needed.
  • Maintains all tools, supplies, parts, and equipment belonging to the Maintenance Department.
  • Picks up materials and repair items needed for maintenance work.
  • Empties trash cans on a regular basis.
  • May drive a vehicle for transportation from one property to another.

What we are looking for in you:

High school diploma or G.E.D.

and

Two years of experience in handling minor building and maintenance repairs and good skill in the use of hand and power tools,

or

any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to perform heavy lifting.

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects (25-50 lbs.).

Physical ability to "team lift" heavy materials, supplies and equipment (50-100 lbs) occasionally.

Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work requires working with cleaning chemicals and may involve discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like
