Under general supervision, this position is responsible for preventive maintenance and repairs to County buildings, facilities, and equipment. The employee utilizes specialized skills in the building trades and performs tasks that are too complex for Building Maintenance Workers I. May instruct or oversee the work of Building Maintenance Worker I on specific assignments. The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor.
Performs repairs, installations, modifications, construction projects, and preventive maintenance routines on County buildings, including:

Requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within building trades. Educational or experience requirements include:
Must have a valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operators License (Class C), pass a criminal background check, and maintain a driving record meeting standards set by the Risk Management Department and insurance carrier.
Journeyman-level carpentry knowledge, ability to perform maintenance work independently, operate tools, problem-solve, read/write/basic math skills, establish effective work relationships, and lift heavy objects.
Regularly required to stand, handle objects, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk, talk, hear, and occasionally lift/move up to 100 lbs. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
Work near moving mechanical parts, in high places, outside in various weather conditions, and exposed to hazards such as wet conditions, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and vibration. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities.
