Building Maintenance Technician/Plumber PT or FT

The Town of Longmeadow, MA DPW is seeking qualified applicants for the PT (20 hours per week) or FT (40 hours per week) position of Building Maintenances Technician/HVAC. Position is responsible for skilled plumbing/heating and gas fitting work at the journeyman level and other maintenance work as assigned.

Successful candidate must have:

• Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions. Knowledge of facilities maintenance and working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to plumbing and heating maintenance and repair activities. Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern plumbing repair and maintenance.
• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good public relations and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials and the general public and to respond in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to meet deadlines and project timetables. Ability to work independently. Ability to plan work schedule to coordinate with other departments to ensure timely completion of projects.
• Strong communication skills, problem solving skills and customer service skills. Strong skill in operating tools and equipment.

Associates degree or journeyman level in the trades or licenses, and 3 to 5 years of related experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience. Must demonstrate a full understanding of applicable codes, policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties. Must have ability to work from blueprints or create own plan when needed.

Must have and maintain valid Massachusetts journeyman plumbing license.; must have ability to work from blueprints or create own plan when needed; must have and maintain a valid driver’s license; Must be able to pass a CORI check.

• Required to be on call as needed to respond to emergencies
