Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Technical training preferred.
  • Education including technical training is desirable.
  • Specialized trade schools and unions are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and plans maintenance-related projects including pricing, materials, equipment needs.
  • Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required.
  • Completes related documentation as required by policy and supervisor.
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment and document completion.
  • Inspects and maintains tools and equipment for proper operation.
  • Supervises and evaluates inmate worker performance.
  • Attends staff meetings and training as required; performs other duties.
  • Drives on State business.
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment.

Job Summary:

Currently, we are looking for talented individuals like yourself to be in our great team! This opportunity is for you! The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is seeking a qualified Building Maintenance Specialist to be routinely involved on a daily basis with the types of duties and tasks of general facility maintenance, repair, construction to include preventative maintenance and assignments as well, but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchen equipment repairs, and utility service systems within the Arizona State Prison Complex (ASPC) – Safford/Tonto Unit.

Job Duties:
  • Schedules and plans maintenance-related projects to include pricing, material list, equipment and needs
  • Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduled
  • Completes related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor
  • Basic knowledge of office equipment to include computers, internet research, and completion of documents
  • Inspects and maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and all are accounted for
  • Supervises and evaluates inmate worker’s performance
  • Attends staff meetings and training as required, and perform other duties appropriate to the assignment
  • Drives on State business
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems, including blueprints, safety practices, and codes
  • Trades, e.g., electronic, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, etc.
  • Budgetary issues to include estimating costs and ordering materials
  • Common and specialized tools for performing duties
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and national and local building codes/regulations

Skill in:

  • Basic reading of blueprints and schematics
  • General construction
  • Mechanical devices

  • Using and demonstrating the use of common and specialized tools

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
