Job summary

The City of Laredo is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of repair and grounds tasks in residential and city facilities. Responsibilities include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, drywall work, painting, and equipment operation in a safe, orderly manner.

Candidates must have at least one year of general experience, hold a Texas driver license, and be able to work with little supervision. A background check and drug testing are required; bilingual English/Spanish communication

Qualifications

• At least one year of general experience. Experience performing plumbing, painting, electrical, heating and air conditioning repair, and/or maintenance work is preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants offered employment; drug and alcohol tests are required for safety-sensitive positions.

Responsibilities

• Performs interior and exterior household repairs.
• Repairs drywall; paints interior and exterior of building(s) or home(s).
• Decides the amount of materials needed to perform repairs and maintenance work on new and existing projects.
• Performs carpentry repairs; installs doors, replaces doors and window frames, utility rooms, and cabinets.
• Inspects and repairs HVAC systems and refrigerators for domestic homes and apartments.
• Inspects, repairs, and installs electrical and gas boilers.
• Repairs plumbing equipment; repairs water lines; unclogs drain lines and repairs other related plumbing components.
• Reads and uses test meters to measure electric current and uses air conditioning gauges.
• Troubleshoots electrical equipment and wiring in homes and apartments.
• Operates equipment such as spray paint guns, riding mowers, and other related mechanical equipment.
• Maintains good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
• Maintains good health and physical condition sufficient to perform duties.
• Maintains a positive and professional image of City of Laredo.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

• At least one (1) year of general experience. Experience performing plumbing, painting, electrical, heating and air conditioning repair, and/or maintenance work is preferred.
