Training Program Overview

The SAFEbuilt Training Program (STP) begins with an orientation covering the legal aspects of building inspections, starting at the front counter. After orientation, trainees are assigned a mentor or Field Training Inspector. They receive on-the-job training on residential inspections, balancing field experience and self-study materials. The program lasts approximately 1 year and includes four modules on residential inspections (Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical). Upon completion, trainees attain ICC Certified Combination Residential Inspector status and are prepared to work out of any SAFEbuilt office.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong desire to learn local building codes and current construction procedures/technology
• Ability to interpret codes in the field and provide code-compliant solutions
• Positive interaction with staff, the public, contractors, governmental entities, and clients
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good time management, organization, and attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Education & Experience

• Entry-level position
• Construction or trade background preferred
• Certificate or degree in Construction Management or related studies is a plus
