Draper City is seeking a Building Inspector III to enforce building codes, inspect sites, and review construction plans for compliance. The role involves field inspections and interaction with the public and city staff to ensure adherence to adopted codes.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, five years of inspection experience, and ICC certifications in four areas plus ANSI A117.1 accessibility certification within 12 months. This is an on-site position with growth opportunities.
Under the supervision of the Chief Building Official, performs technical and administrative work including the responsibility for on-site inspections, review of construction plans and specifications for compliance with city adopted construction codes. This position ensures that all construction within the city complies with all construction codes as amended and adopted by the State of Utah and Draper City, and other applicable city, state and federal requirements related to construction.

Position requires working outdoors. Tasks require a variety of physical activities. Regularly required to talk, hear, see, walk, sit, stand, reach, use hands/finger to feel, handle, and grip, climb or balance and stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. May be confined to small spaces to perform work. Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. (Performance of duties may require working in varied weather conditions such as extreme cold or hot conditions.) Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and dusty or greasy conditions. Frequent exposure to high levels of noise. Operate equipment and drive vehicles. Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. (Position will be required to use a vehicle to drive to addresses and locations throughout Draper City.)
