Performs routine to complex building inspections to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and codes; reviews plans for compliance; investigates violations; detects deviations from approved plans; and performs related work.
The Building Inspector II performs full-range inspections, including more complex tasks, and requires certification. Employees work independently, exercising judgment and initiative, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Receives general supervision from the Building Official; no direct supervision exercised.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework is desirable. Certification with ICBO/ICC is required.
Experience: Three years of full-time building inspection with a public agency or six years of relevant journey-level experience. An Associate degree in Building Construction/Inspection Technology may substitute for one year of experience.
Must possess and maintain a B2-Commercial Building Inspector certification from ICC or equivalent. Within 18 months, obtain M1-Residential Mechanical, E1-Residential Electrical, and P1-Residential Plumbing Inspector certifications from ICC or equivalent.
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, often in inclement weather or hazardous conditions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and perform physical inspections.
