Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

West Coast Code Consultants, Inc. (WC³) is seeking an entry-level Building Inspector to join our team in Utah. Client-focused candidates must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience performing field inspections of residential and/or commercial projects under construction or alteration. This position offers a great opportunity for a dynamic self-starter to work on a variety of projects and ensure adherence to approved plans and specifications, as well as compliance with adopted building codes and construction standards in Utah. Candidates must be comfortable performing on-site field inspections, writing inspection reports, and communicating with jurisdictional building departments and the public.

This position will report to and receive support from management based in our Layton Regional Office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Perform all necessary duties of a certified Building Inspector to determine code compliance adopted by various jurisdictions.
  • Perform evaluations of residential and commercialstructures at various construction stages for compliance with approved plans, specifications, jurisdictional codes, ordinances, and other regulations.
  • Comprehensive code knowledge is required to inspect architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing aspects of construction.
  • Ability to read plans and other construction documents. Be able to navigate code books.
  • May be asked to help with reviewing construction plans for code compliance.
  • Write inspection reports, both paper copies and electronically, with laptops and tablets.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public (homeowners, property owners, engineers, architects, etc.) to answer questions that may arise and communicate deficiencies. with owners and builders.
  • Communicate with permit techs, other inspectors, and building officials for jurisdictions.
  • Adapt to the jurisdiction’s requirements of reporting and communicating.
  • May require physical exertion during on-site inspections, such as sitting, crawling, standing, walking, jumping, and lifting to 25 pounds. Most work will be performed outdoors in the elements.
  • Make special efforts to promote goodwill within the company and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The job requires the ability to drive.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Obtain and update state and local licenses and certifications as needed.
  • One (1) International Code Council (ICC) or 1 (one) year of construction work experience with basic construction. (Experience in construction inspections is not required, but preferred.)
  • Preferred – At least 3 ICC certifications and 1-3 years of construction work or education experience related to construction.
  • Preferred – A minimum of 3 years of experience performing building inspections. (Certifications may be substituted for relevant experience.)
  • Continual, ongoing training and additional achievement of ICC certifications is expected to take place.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
