Job summary

Stafford County is seeking a Building Inspector I/II/III to perform routine inspections for conformity with Virginia codes. You will learn residential combination inspections by accompanying senior inspectors, handling fieldwork, plan reviews, and reports under close supervision.

Ideal candidates will train to read codes, use computer systems for records, and communicate clearly with diverse communities. Some after-hours and outdoor work in varied weather may be required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building construction trades and codes.
• Ability to read and interpret codes, plans, and diagrams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with field inspections under supervision.
• Learn performance of technical inspection and plans examining work.
• Review plans for compliance with Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code in residential inspections.
• Respond to questions from the public and escalate as needed.
• Maintain inspection records and reports.
• May work after hours for emergency inspections.
• Perform related duties as required.
