Incumbents in this position inspect residential construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with building and zoning codes.
One year of recent full-time paid experience working in building inspection and code enforcement, fire safety and prevention, architectural design, or the skilled trades or construction fields where knowledge of building codes and compliance can be acquired. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience in code enforcement, construction, property maintenance, fire safety, or a closely related field is highly preferred.
Applicants must be able to: bend and stoop during the course of performing inspectional duties; climb stairs, ladders, and fire escapes; walk on scaffolding; inspect open multi-story buildings; access trap doors and/or access panels to make inspections; spend approximately 50% of the working day on their feet making inspections; lift a weight of 40 pounds.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request.
